Paris cultural season has just started and one of the major events is the exhibition Picasso.mania at Grand Palais.

The exhibition is chronologically and thematically structured, which makes it easier for the visitor to observe the different phases and styles of Picasso’s career as well as the growth of his popularity and the myth built up around his name.

Altogether there are 400 works exhibited. And the big news of this exhibition is the presentation of 300 works by contemporary artists around the world who have reproduced and interpreted his image and some of his most emblematic creations. These are not just paintings, engravings and sculptures, but also movies, songs and advertisements.

There are also 100 works by Picasso that came from Pompidou and Picasso museums (both in Paris) and from family’s personal collection. It is interesting to observe how paintings are displayed side by side on the walls, just like the artists of the Cubist movement – which Picasso is one of the creators – liked to present their works.

Picasso.mania is impeccable, dynamic, stunning! Although it has many multimedia features, the curator did an awesome job on keeping the focus on what really matters: the genius of Pablo Picasso.

Coming soon – Picasso.mania

Museums and exhibitions are always on my list of places to visit and this is one of the greatest things that travel can grant me.

Paris has many of excelent options for those who appreciate art and history. There are museums for all tastes and interests far beyond the Louvre and d’Orsay, but we leave it to another post!

For now, I stick to the major cultural event of the city in the second semester: Picasso.mania at Grand Palais!

I love Picasso! His paintings are my favorite! His Museum is my favorite! I confess that I would like to be an expert in art to explain it technically and rationally. But all can say is that his works get me and the explanation is almost childish: colors, shapes, expressions…. Of course there was a lot of study, research and technique involved, but he makes everything look really simple and easy! It’s fun and lovely to distinguish the different phases of his career by observing his works exhibited in the museum that has his name!

That´s why I’m so excited with this new exhibition in town, which will have greater focus on Picasso’s figure and the influence he has had on many artists, such as painters, poets, writers and filmmakers. The exhibition is punctuated by some of his works housed in Musée Picasso and Pompidou.

Can´t wait to visit it :)
